Singapore’s Latest Attraction: The Tanglin Cascades

You raise the level of Orchard Road, the water just goes elsewhere. It’s a very wet Sunday. I was studying at Toa Payoh Library. It was intermittent pour, drizzle, pour drizzle outside and Duan Wu Festival celebrations were still going on outside the library. There were dances (apparently, they borrowed and dragged Chang Er over from the Moon Cake Festival) and the “dragon boat race” was a rather stupid group event with participants slipping their feet into 2 wooden planks, wading their way to the finish line.

It seems that the heavens were not too happy with the dry race and decided to inject a bit of realism into this totally artificial scene. At least every one of the “boaters” got drenched.

Meanwhile at Orchard Road, the Tanglin Cascades became the latest attraction. Tourists at the Botanical Gardens must have abandoned the flowers, tress, swans, artificial lakes and streams there for something more “natural” and impromptu just across the road.

Remember your yin and yang? When you raise parts of Orchard Road and make it more yang, another part will be relatively yin.
