It’s that time of the year again. If you’re familiar with Yours Toothfully, you’ll know that it’s customary for me to make my closing and opening statements.
First, the closing statements. 2010 has been a good year for business. All the implants left to collect dust in 2009 have been used up and I even sprained my ankle while laughing to the bank. Ouch!

Yes, I acupunctured myself and immediately after the needles were withdrawn, I couldn’t feel the pain anymore. It has been a good year for TCM as well. I’m not quite ready for the exams yet, but I’ve learned a lot about what acupuncture can do and how to administer it. The more I learn about this ancient healing art, the more curious and interested I became.

Another thing to happy about. After being out of the limelight for 20 years, I finally caught the media’s eye again and appeared on Blogtv. No big deal compared to the time I commented on Singapore’s literary scene and debated publicly with editors like Koh Buck Song. Or when Ng Wai Choy’s travelogues, translated by me, appeared in the papers on a weekly basis. Or when I hosted readings, gave talks at libraries, when readers asked me for autographs at book fairs …. I wouldn’t consider this a comeback to the glamourous but peniless world of writing/publishing for me. With 2 kids in tow, I can no longer be the same dreamy, poetic, fiery maverick that I was 20 years ago.
But all in all, I’m very glad that I’ve still managed to breeze through a good year in spite of certain domestic issues which are a constant source of stress, frustration and irritation. So much for my closing statements for 2010. Now for 2011.
Foremost on my mind is passing my exams and getting my clinic geared up to practise acupuncture. Passing the exam is important, but I think it’s even more important to be good at it. Next year is going to be a very busy year. I need to juggle my dental practice with my studies and acupuncture clinical attachments after work. Demanding for a 47-year-old to say the least. Allocation of time would be very important in 2011. Not a moment to waste.
Health, wellness and fitness would be a major topic for me in 2011. More time to exercise and train. After my board exam in October, I’ll be celebrating with a trip to Nepal. I’ll be trekking in the snowy Himalayas, maybe even climb a small peak, eat authentic Nepalese food at Tukeche Thakali, maybe one meal at Everest Steak House, buy cordyceps, lots of rare books at Pilgrims Book House, some good robust autumn flush tea leaves and of course drink lots of Sherpa chang. Yes, I would really deserve a good holiday in Nepal at the end of 2011.
Oops… we haven’t even started with 2011 yet and I’m already talking about the end. How am I going to begin 2011? I have absolutely no idea.
